Room for improvement

I have been camping at Kittatinny (Barryville) for over 20 years. I have noticed that the campground has progressively gotten more urbanized as the years pass.

Since covid, more people have taken up camping, thus making every campground more crowded, but Kittatinny has gotten to the point that it's pretty much one person on top of the other.

I wish they would enforce "quiet hours." Loud music everywhere, the people screaming take away from the camping experience.

Also, this is a request. AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile do not have signal at camp. Once you're at Kittatinny you might as well be in the middle of the desert.

Last but not least, the bathrooms really need to be modernized.

Good Overall Campground

We stayed here twice, in 2020 an 2019. Our first trip we were on the road side, not near the river, but right next to a stream. In 2020 we got two sites right on the river. Both times I liked the campground. It was clean, quiet enough but they weren't overly policing the place so you could have a good time and listen to music. The bathrooms are porta potties unless you go to the main bath houses, which are reasonably clean and maintained. The wait to go rafting last year was ridiculously long, they need new computers. But, the prior year it was fine. There's some wifi access around the main store, away from that there is zero wifi and near zero cell signal, so offline access for music and other stuff.

Overall I liked the place and would definitely go back.

Dirt & Gravel

Route 15/209 was beautiful! We enjoyed driving through the quaint town, outdoor restaurants, and mountain views!

Upon arriving to the campsite, we were welcomed by a young teenager who held the door for us, a very nice way to start the weekend.

Our site was just across from the welcome center, at the beginning of the camp, in the middle of the gravel parking lot, 100’ from the highway. a sure disappointment. When asked if there were other spots closest to the lake, I was told, “Its a river, and there is a back-in spot.”

A quick look around told me that sites were packed tightly and for our maiden voyage, did not want to get stuck in the mud. We decided to keep our spot in the lot.

We were glad to see there were water and electric hookups and a dump site. There was even propane, should we need it. There was wifi, but it wasn’t working.

After unpacking, we took the dogs and started out to explore the grounds. There really was no place to walk, other than on the roads, all other areas were packed with tents, even home-made tarp tents. Most dogs, even though tied up, barked as we passed. which was a bit stressful for us and the dogs. One path took us along the highway, our views were dumpsters and highway traffic.

We found the river, and wow, it was beautiful!

As we walked toward the river, we noticed all the sites with river views were residents. Aside from maybe 5 other trailers/RVs, the remaining occupants were in tents.

If you’re looking for a place to sleep, eat, and party with your friends with your focus of water play, this could be the site for you. We were hoping for grassy fields, river views, and water fun. The amount of gravel, mud, and weeds did not provide the atmosphere we were looking for. The small area for river wading or fishing was crowded with others and their barking/lunging dogs, not peaceful. We left after one night and will not return.

Some good, Some bad

I didn’t appreciate the lack of consideration due to COVID. Seemed like they went ahead and booked every spot they could. It was my first time camping so I was happy to be out but people shouldn’t be on top of each other like that. They need to rent every other site. I heard complaints about noise but only encountered a little noise. I did like the river rafting and also it was just fine being outdoors and everyone was enjoying themselves.

It’ll do

My family has been coming here to tune for years but this was my first time camping here. The sites were close together and everyone was super loud which didn’t bother me. I enjoyed hearing other people’s music and laughter. What did bother me was the fact that their website said they don’t allow fireworks but there were plenty, which terrified our dogs. It wasn’t particularly clean and the staff weren’t super friendly. Not sure if the site is always as busy as it was or if it’s people wanting to escapee their homes during COVID quarantine. They have showers and bathrooms but they weren’t very clean and we avoided them as much as possible. We ended up having a good time and we’d return but it’s not our first choice.

Noisy, obnoxious, crowded

A great place if you're a college kid looking to blast music and party into the late hours. Loud music blasting until 1-2am (ie: reggaeton being blasted by loud car speakers) and it picks back up by 9-10am. Nobody wearing masks in communal areas, not a place I'd call a campground. We showed up to our reserved site occupied by another group. The employees offered us a prime river spot due to the inconvenience only to find that spot being used as overflow parking for the giant party going on around it. When told to the employees I was told "it happens." We ended up staying a third, equally unimpressive spot. Imagine taking a slice of NYC and planting it off the side of the road in a picnic area.

The worst!

If I could give it ZERO stars, I would. Trust what you have read out there on social media, this site is the worst. Firstly, this is more like a picnic ground on the side of the road than a campground, and I have been to many others. Sites are on top of one another (see photo). The green tent is from our group. All the other tents are from 2 camp sites combined. 11 tents on 2 sites! We wanted a site with electrical and water because we had our sons with us. There were many other families there as well. The site directly next to us (in the picture) had in excess of 15 people there! They were young (late teens/early twenties). As the night progressed, the massive fireworks began. Okay, seems like fun. Then, they continued into the late evening. At 12:40, the gentleman who patrols the camp caught them in the act. He told them to stop. Mind you, this was not the only site lighting fireworks. Then, AFTER that, the party stared. We understand being young and partying. There was music, loudness, drinking, etc. So, 12:40, okay. 1:00, eh, alright. However, around 2:00, yes 2:00, the yelling and fighting (literally) began (yelling included racial epithets-as they were able to refer to themselves in those terms). A fist fight ensued. We decided it was most prudent to not interject ourselves into the situation as we had children with us. I went to find a cell signal, as there is none almost anywhere there, by the office. I happened upon the camp“security” and told him to put a stop to it or I would call the police. He listened and did. Then, he patrolled several more times. Eventually, he stopped and, here we go again! Another yelling and fighting match breaks out. All this eventually dies down at 3:30. Great! No one slept. The office responded to our complaints the next morning by telling us that they were leaving and blackballed. We cut our experience short. Do NOT camp here.

So much fun

My college friends go here each year to meet up and we have so much fun. The group sites are great and perfect for our 30-50 people. Definitely go for the rafting/tubing package, it was the best part of the trip!

Good time if you aren't looking for peace and quiet

This place is hopping as far as a campground goes. Music playing and it's pretty crowded. But this is the place I go to with my old college friends once a year, and it's good for that. Rafting and hiking is always a great time, and you can have a good campfire with music and a few beers and nobody is going to bother you.

Had a blast. Happy to return

The only thing that was slightly annoying was the state of the porta-johns, and the fact that at the end of our rafting trip, our big group had to wait a while to be shuttled back up (maybe slightly unorganized?) but the quality of the sites, of the rafting gear, and overall it is an amazing stay.

Indian Head campground next to kittatiny.

We stayed at Indian Head campground just up the rd but they are not available for review. Stayed at the knights eddy campsite. Porta potty and hand wash stations available but no showers. The campsites are clean & the staff are friendly. The sites are right on the delaware river & the view is amazing. However, don't the the maps fool you, the campsites are right off the main rd so you constantly hear cars & motorcycles. Stayed Thursday through Sunday and were the only ones there until Sat when most people book their river trips (requirement to camp here). Many different lengths of river trips are available.
